Four simple ways to make tofu more exciting: smoked, marinated, tempura-fried, or blended into sweet and savory creams.
Ingredients
Smoked tofu
- Smoked tofu
Marinated tofu
- Tofu
- 1 tsp miso paste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
Tempura tofu
- Tofu
- 1/2 cup rice flour
- 1/4 cup sparkling water or beer
- A pinch of salt
- Baking soda (optional)
- Oil for frying
Blended tofu creams
- Tofu
- Plant milk
- Cacao
- Syrup
- A pinch of salt
- For savory spreads: veggie stock, olive oil, nutritional yeast, roasted veggies, fresh herbs, or other flavors you like
Process
Smoked tofu
- 1 Look for smoked tofu on the label and check the ingredients because some brands use fake flavors.
- 2 Lightly fry it and use it in soups, stir-fries, or salads.
Marinated tofu
- 1 Mix the miso paste, olive oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika into a marinade.
- 2 Cut the tofu and coat it in the marinade.
- 3 Let it sit for 1 hour.
- 4 Bake at 200C for about 15 minutes.
Tempura tofu
- 1 Whisk the rice flour, sparkling water or beer, salt, and optional baking soda into a batter.
- 2 Coat the tofu in the batter.
- 3 Fry until golden.
- 4 Drain on paper towels.
Blended tofu creams
- 1 For dessert, blend tofu with plant milk, cacao, syrup, and a pinch of salt.
- 2 For savory spreads, blend tofu with veggie stock, olive oil, and flavors like nutritional yeast, roasted veggies, or fresh herbs.
